Subject: CENTRALIZED VS DECENTALIZED CHECKIN
At the University of Cincinnati Libraries we are considering
distributing periodical checkin to our various branch libraries.
Checkin has been done in a centralized Acquisitions Department for
years, but because of staffing reductions we are considering all
options. We are also in the process of converting serials checkin to
Innovative Interfaces' integrated system, Innopac.
I would appreciate hearing from people who are considering a similar
restructuring or who have already implemented decentralized checkin.
What are the pros and cons to decentralizing vs centralizing? What
problems have arisen? If you convinced your administration to keep
checkin centralized, what arguments did you use?
Thank you for your assistance.
