At the College of William and Mary, we shelve our current periodicals in
a separate periodical reading area, alphabetically by title.  When bound,
they are classified and inter-shelved in the book stacks.
After a bit of flack from a few faculty members who wanted the current
periodicals in call number order, since that was what they were used to at
other institutions, we offered a compromise.  Rather than rearranging the
current collection, we were able to make a print out of our current periodicals
in call number order and keep it in the area with the collection.  This list
was derived from a database of all of our current serials which we manipulate
with PARADOX to give us pricing information, titles by subject area, frequency,
and language (these last two are in the works).
At least the faculty seemed mollified by this move and we did not have to
shift the entire collection to suit a very vocal few.
