As a point of clarification to a previous message on this topic:
The bibliography passed out at the NASIG conference was compiled by Glenda
Thornton. She also did a survey of participants at the workshop to
determine if there was any favored way of arranging periodical collections.
She is now at the Auraria Library at the University of Colorado in Denver if
anyone is interested in contacting her to find out the results.
Glenda became interested in this topic while at the University of North Texas.
She chaired a committee which examined the possibility of classifying our
periodical collections. It was determined that the costs outweighed any
possible benefits of abandoning our current alphabetical arrangement. Instead,
we have concentrated on improving access to the periodical collections by
relabeling bound volumes to the new form of entry for the title, inputting
notes in the online catalog and using shelf "dummies."
Good luck at your faculty meeting on Monday, Joyce. No matter how a library
arranges their periodical collections, another way will be prefered by
someone.
