Arrangement of Current Display Area Donnice=Cochenour%Acquis%Libraries@VINES.COLOSTATE.EDU 15 Nov 1991 18:59 UTC

At Colorado State University Libraries we have a new current periodicals room
with the last two years of loose issues shelved by Class No. We too had a
minor faculty uprising when we moved into the room because before, the loose
issues had been arranged in three broad subject areas by main entry, mostly
title. We asked the RLG libraries to respond to a message much like yours,
Joyce, and found that the split between Class No. and main entry arrangement
was approximately 50-50.

Our bound volumes are intershelved by Class No. with the monographs.
Microforms are in another area also by Class No.

There was an interesting article on arrangement of periodical collections in a
recent issue of SERIALS REVIEW -- by Jim Segesta and Gary Hyslop, "The
arrangement of periodicals in American academic libraries." It's in the
Spring, 1991 issue on pages 21-28.
