At Florida International University, all hardcopy periodicals are kept in
the same room, arranged by call number.  Bound volumes are shelved standing
up.  Current issues are on shelves laying down.  They also are arranged by
call number.  There are, however, some selected issues kept locked in a
cabinet behind the Periodicals Information Desk.  Most are high profile
issues which contain articles assigned by a specific teacher to a specific
class for a specific assignment.  However, others are put in the cabinet
if there is a great interest or look like they may have a high theft rate.
Our microforms are kept in a separate room, on the other side of the
library, by call number, fiche and film separate but near each other.
