LATIN AMERICAN SERIALS CATALOGER

The Latin American serials cataloging librarian is responsible for the
original cataloging of serials for the Benson Latin American Collection.
The materials, primarily in Spanish and Portuguese, are in hard copy and
microformats, and cover all aspects of Latin American studies. CONSER
standards are followed for original serials cataloging; name authority
records are created using NACO guidelines. Some weekend hours are required.
This position reports to the coordinator, Benson Serials Unit.

The librarian supervises 1.5 (full-time equivalent) classified staff who
provide searching and processing support; works closely with the unit's
serial records and bindery preparation staff, CONSER and NACO coordinators,
and personnel of the Benson Latin American Collection; serves at the
Reference Desk in the Collection, including one weekend per semester.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA accredited graduate program;
fluent reading knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience cataloging serials using CONSER
standards, AACR2, LC classification and subject headings, and OCLC;
experience establishing name authority records using NACO standards;
supervisory experience; good written and verbal communication skills;
ability to organize and relate to staff of all levels and many different
backgrounds.

Salary range is $22,500 to $27,000 annually or more, depending on
qualifications. No state or local income tax. Competitive benefits
