Timewands LINASEA@ECUVM1.BITNET 04 Oct 1991 19:01 UTC

The East Carolina University Health Sciences Library has been using two Vide
x Timewands for continuous use statistics since early 1989. They have been
dropped several times but we have probably had to send each wand back for
repair only once or twice. Their repair service can send a replacement out the
day we phone them. This cost $25 plus shipping and handling. The two
Timewands combined recorded the reshelving of 7,701 journals in September (one
of our busier months).

I hope eventually to be able to use the Check-out and Shelf functions of
the LS/2000, our online catalog, to record statistics. This would allow us to
wand the item's bar code. I won't use LS/2000 until there is a report that is
adequate for collection development purposes. The Low Circulating Item (LOW) r
eport does not provide enough information.

I think a NASIG workshop on this subject might be very interesting.
