Yes, the ISSN does have a check digit (the 8th digit) but it is not the same
as the ISBN one. The check digit is a REMAINDER after a formula (and the
remainder is X under certain circumstances, which I don't remember). It is not
really useful to know unless you are assigning ISSNs to titles. (Most online
catalogs now can check the digits for you and tell you if the ISSN is
invalid).
