I can see the logic that since librarins are generalists (well, at least in
a relative sense) then they can see "the big picture" and make balanced and
responsible collection development decisions. Assuming they're good at their
jobs.
It did seem for a moment it was advocated that librarians should select with
fair disregard for the input of facualty. That would amount to librarians
choosing a researcher's tools. That didn't sound right.
Thanks for your clarification, David. Now, I can see more clearly the
sentiment of the list. Being a student of Library Science, I did want to
find the opinions of those established in the field.
