A follow-up to my original hot-tempered response to Sharon Gasser's message.
If what she was really asking about, as some of the other respondents seem
to be assuming, is whether teaching faculty should have a voice in selection
by making suggestions for purchase, then I have not objection.  However, if
when she said SELECTION she meant SELECTION (with its implication of control
over the final decision) and not SUGGESTION (input but not control) then I
stick with my original response.
