In the past few years the Library's Collection Development Committee
has evaluated and selected new serial titles (a small number with
such tight funding!).  We are thinking of changing this process
to allow academic departments to select all materials regardless
of format but with the approval of the liaison librarian.  We did
get a substantial increase in funds for library materials.  Has
this approach been tried at other libraries?  Will departments be
judicious in their selection of new serial titles?  Thanks for your
