IFLA questions TSANDERS@AUDUCVAX.BITNET 22 Aug 1991 20:52 UTC

I suppose I should mind my own business but ---
Having been nasty to several people about this in the past, both on this
list and elsewhere, I believe that one should make no assumptions about who
the other listmembers are or what they will know (or even be interested in).
For that reason, I don't think it is useful to argue about whether or why
people approve or disapprove of the IFLA news appearing on this or other
library-related databases.

I agree with the original "complaint" to the extent that it is nice for
people to identify their topics and spell out their initialisms for the
benefit of others who may be more marginally interested and only sort of
remember what the acronym stands for. Of course, I am old enough to remember
when SLA was meeting in Boston and people worried they would be mistaken
for the Symbionese (sp?) Liberation Army. Lots of people have similar
acronyms and not everyone remembers all of them. And some lists are very
particular that what appears on them relate only to the topic of the list.
Frequently, but not always, these are moderated lists.

So, as a (partially) reformed sinner, I do urge that we not insult each other
in the matter of the IFLA news, but use a bit of restraint.
