CATALOG LIBRARIAN. The E. G. Swem Library of the College of
William and Mary invites applications for the position of Catalog
Librarian. Under the direction of the Head of the Catalog Dept., the
Catalog Librarian is responsible for original and difficult copy
cataloging in all formats and languages according to AACR2,
OCLC, and LC standards; supervision, training, and work revision
of four Library Assistant Catalogers;  participation in establishing
and monitoring Catalog Dept. priorities, goals, standards, and
procedures.

Requirements: MLS from an ALA-accredited library school;
cataloging experience; knowledge of and experience with an
automated library system, OCLC or other major bibliographic
utility, MARC formats, AACR2, LC standards, LC classification and
authority control; knowledge of at least one foreign language
(preferably non-European); strong interpersonal and
communication skills.

Desirable:  Experience with multiple bibliographic formats
particularly serials and music; supervisory experience; experience
with an online serials control system using the MARC format for
coded holdings.

The Catalog Department, which catalogs approximately 16,000
titles per year, consists of 2.4 librarians, 6 library assistants, and 2
database specialists.  An integrated library information
management system (VTLS) is in place; retrospective conversion
has been completed for monographs and is in progress for serials.

Twelve month appointment.  Salary dependent upon qualifications
and experience.  Benefits include twenty days annual leave,
