For future reference to help in explaining serials to those who are not
familiar with them, there is an LC publication, Serials accessioning manual /
Jean Ott, published by the Serial Record Division of the Library of
Congress in 1985. It deals largely with internal procedures, but it also
has the explanations about what a serial is and how to recognize it that LC
uses for its own new staff. I think it is quite useful for this purpose.
