In response to Mary Bevis's inquiry about cataloging minimum
level in-house directly into NOTIS, all original serials cataloging
is done in-house directly into NOTIS, whether full or minimum level.
at Notre Dame. After I have completed cataloging, I route print-
outs of the serials records to the Library Assistants who do serials
copy cataloging. They input these records into OCLC as they can
"translate" the fixed fields from NOTIS to OCLC MARC.
There have been a few titles which we have not wanted to do via
OCLC, and so "in-house" works fine. For example, telephone directories
which are kept for reference work, but would never be loaned on
ILL. A generic records which lists cities as holdings works fine
for our processing of and access to these directories.
