Current issue shelving question

At Pitts Theology Library of Emory University, periodicals are shelved in
alphabetical order. For reshelving and patron convenience this seems
most satisfactory. Visitors often remark about the accessibility of our
periodicals. When we ran out of space, we moved all pre-1930 periodicals
to a separate room, where they, too, are in alphabetical order. Current
subscriptions number 1710; bound volumes ca. 36,200. At the suggestion of
a contributor a few weeks ago, I am keeping track of the number of claims
made through our agents and direct to publishers. We receive almost 300
periodical titles from Africa. These require special attention to keep
them coming, so I write many letters. This is time consuming, but the
correspondence with Africa is an interesting part of the job.
