Tailoring 78x to fit your local system
PENNELL@UOFMCC.BITNET 21 Mar 1991 18:53 UTC
Those of you who are tailoring indicators in the 780/785 notes to
displays in your own local OPAC should remember that your present
vendor may not be your next vendor. Remember Cincinnati Electronics,
Bibliotechniques, etc. Even NOTIS isn't forever. I would argue that
it would be better to convince your vendor to make changes to their
software (or perhaps some other library has already made these changes
to NOTIS software) in terms of print constants than to stray from
standards that are recognized across the library community. If you
are creating original serial records for OCLC, RLIN, etc. you may
be doing other libraries a disservice in creating an unnecessary 580
- 78x I1=1 combination.
