Re: USING WORDPERFECT PRODUCTS FOR SERIALS CONTROL gaele 12 Mar 1991 00:42 UTC

In reply to Bill Drew's questions about use of micros/WordPerfect software
to accomplish serials control: We implemented our new in-house,
on-line serials records system Jan. 1987: bib. records, holdings records
based on USMARC Format for Holdings & Locations, and issue-level records
which interact with the holdings records and the claims module. Since new
bib. & holdings records can be created and check-in is done in real-time,
this has eliminated most of the known duplicative check-in that used to
reside in branch libraries, and we don't encourage the use of micros for
serials control. However, some branches use their micros with WordPerfect
and other software to do specific special projects invovlving certain
ranges of serial titles that are appropriate to their needs.
