The Indiana University Library has a serious problem with Soviet
periodicals - although apparently all American libraries are in the same
boat. (See AAASS Newsletter for March 1991.) Briefly: We are receiving
much of the central press on time (Pravda, Izvestiia, Trud, Krasnaia
zvezda). Some central newspapers are very late and erratic (Lit Gazeta,
Lit Rossiia, Sov Kul'tura). We have not received any issues of Argumenty i
fakty for 1991. We have not received any non-Moscow newspapers for 1991
with the single exception of Sovetskaia Estoniia. The situation with
journals is worse - we have not received a single Soviet journal for 1991.
I would be interested in hearing from any librarians who (a) have had a
different experience since the first of the year, (b) have found a solution
to the problem.
