Although we have DRA system here at southwest Texas State
University Library, basically we have encountered
the same phenomena regarding the display of complex notes for
serials records. For simple title changes, regardless of the
indicators in the 780 and 785 fields, the system automatically
display "PREVIOUS TITLE: ..." and "LATER TITLE: ..." in PAC.
However, if there are more than one 780 or 785 fields, the system
will only pick the very first 780 and/or 785 fields listed in the
bib record. Fixing this problem is already requested through DRA
SIR (Software Improvement Request) services. Meanwhile, we have
found the following solution to serve our users more efficiently:
For complex title changes we enter one or more 580 notes
indicating "Merged with ..." and/or "Formed by the union of..."
to fully explain the complexity of the title changes. Also, to
avoid generation of other notes that automatically created by 780
and/or 785 tags, we agreed to change the field numbers to "781"
and "786" respectively when we work with complex title changes.
This will prevent display of duplicate notes and when the problem
of displaying complex notes is fixed in the future, the field
tags can be identified globally and changed back to the 780 or
785 fields.
