Having done serials recon at the Univ. of Michigan, I still shudder at the
 memory of pulling out successive entries from recon titles. It certainly eats
 up time if you've got serials in the 5 and 6 digets to handle.  However, unless
 we all get  integrated online systems that will index and permit search of
 multiple title fields, (Maybe repeatable 247's for all former titles, if
 latest entry, or later titles, if earliest entry?) and have clear OPAC displays
 of those titles for the patrons, successive entry is is probaby here to stay
 for a while.  (Does anyone know if OCLC is still compressing records?)
