Position: Serials Coordinator
Library & Technology Services (LTS) at Brandeis University is looking
for a Serials Coordinator. This person will coordinate daily activities
of student staff for processing serial publications to insure efficient
workflow; responsible for processing serial publications and perform
payment processing for periodicals; supervise the commercial binding
process; responsible for maintaining accurate information about our
serial holdings(print and online); and assist with maintaining
electronic resources.
Coordinates daily activities of serials processing for print and
electronic journals. This includes serials' check-in, claiming,
renewals, invoicing, and binding; ensures efficient periodicals
processing. Responsible for payments of periodical subscriptions; serves
as primary contact with subscription vendors.
Coordinates projects related to serials processing, such as the
implementation of the Electronic Resource Management system; serves as a
serials resource person for staff throughout Library and Technology
Services; identifies and resolves problems relating to receipt of print
material and online access. Assist in the coordination annual serial
renewal for print and electronic journals subscriptions. Facilitates the
process print subscription to online format.
Responsible for collecting and analyzing usage statistics for electronic
and print serial resources; maintaining records for electronic serials
in ALMA; maintaining the quality of serial bibliographic records in the
ALMA database.
Supervises and trains student assistants to check-in print serial
publications using the acquisition database, to perform serial binding
using the bindery system, and to check online access to electronic
serials for broken links.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED: College degree; 5 years library experience with
serials/periodicals; experience with automated library systems, link
resolvers and binding systems; strong Microsoft Excel skills;
familiarity with content management systems; E-Resource Management
Systems, OpenURL, EZproxy, good organizational skills with strong
attention to detail; supervisory skills; fluency in the English
language; ability to work as part of a team
PREFERRED: Experience with Ex Libris ALMA automated library System and
ABLE Bindery System; Knowledge of Hebrew/Yiddish; Knowledge of other
European languages Knowledge of both PC and Mac applications, and
ability to troubleshoot common computer and software problems.
NOTE: Responsibilities include lifting and moving of boxes of books and
other library materials.
