I have done some investigating. We don't actually host the backserv list. This was at the bottom of one of my emails from the backserv:

I visited the link. Here's what I got:

This group is invite only, so you may not apply for membership.
However, you may contact the owner.
"Contact the owner" opens up a link that allows you to send an email, presumably to the moderator. But from what I can tell, there is no moderator. It's all very confusing. I sent a request for someone to contact me through the "contact the owner" link. I will probably go ahead and contact technical support for Google Groups, too. That's what I have discovered so far.
