We still date stamp periodicals, print newspapers and print government documents. We use SirsiDynix's product and there is no way to see the date received in the OPAC. It is only when I look it up in WorkFlows that I can see the date received. Since I only work Monday-Friday during the day, there is no way for the Reference or Circulation staff to let someone know when an issue was received if they don't have the date stamp to look at, because they cannot see the Serials Control in their configurations of WorkFlows.

Besides, I have worked in Serials for just over 13 years now and we often have the question arise from professors about received date versus cover chronology. A lot of serials are delayed or change publishers often and that effects when they are published. My favorite example so far was a sports/exercise serial that was published in 2002, sent to us in 2003 and had the cover chronology of 1992....
