Lead Librarian for Acquisitions

Appalachian State University is seeking a highly-motivated, proactive, and service-oriented individual for the position of Lead Librarian for Acquisitions.  Working collaboratively with acquisitions, e-resources, collection management, and cataloging personnel, the successful candidate will be responsible for the coordination and management of the Library’s acquisitions, including continuing resources (e-journals and databases).  Responsibilities include: managing an acquisitions budget of over $3 million; managing acquisition of rare and special collections; supervising 4 - 6 paraprofessional staff; negotiating price and access terms with vendors; and collaborating with network and consortial partners in purchase and license negotiation.  The successful candidate will be able to extract data from multiple sources to produce reports for decision making and coordinate acquisitions projects and workflows with related groups.  Effective communication and consensus-building skills in working with faculty, staff, and campus administrators are essential.

Required:
Must demonstrate the following:
•	ALA accredited master’s degree.
•	Minimum of two years of related library experience (such as work in acquisitions, serials, e-resources, and/or collection management).
•	Positive experience as a supervisor.
•	Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Preferred:
•	A second advanced degree (if the candidate does not already have a second advanced degree, s/he must earn one within six years for continuing employment).
•	Experience using an integrated library system (the Appalachian Libraries use Sierra).
•	Proficiency with Excel and other data management tools.
•	Life experiences similar to those of underrepresented populations of Appalachian. The Library strongly encourages applications from members of ethnic and racial groups of Appalachian’s student minorities, principally African Americans, Latino Americans, and Asian Americans.

This twelve-month, tenure track position will be available January 1, 2014.  Salary and rank are determined based on qualifications and experience.
