Hello, I have been through this more frequently as my collection has been weaned practically every year. I used to just rely on usage studies (still done every year) and online access, Now I check journals by the most cited journals or the highest impact factor. 1.My main source has been ISI Web of Science -select database -journal citation report -view group of journals by subject -click subject (you can choose multiple subjects) see procedure to select multiple subjects -click submit and sort again -either select number of cites or impact factor -you choose either choose how many times a journal has been sites or what the impact factors is. -you can sort again by title and you will have the most heavily cited/impact factors journals by subject 2.we also check Ulrich's Periodical's for Canadian Titles. The scope of Ulrich's is to locate journals other than US http://ulrichsweb.serialssolutions.com/ -you can do an advanced search by: subject (keyword or advanced) limit by: active, serial type, subject area Medicine & Health - subject, country Canada and United Kingdom (gives broader scope), key features (peer reviewed) This will give you a list of titles which you can access all the publication information of each title and the publisher's web page which will also give you the number of cites and the impact factor. You can get most of this from ISI but to get a broader picture and more information on non-US titles I go through this routine as well. If you would like any further information please feel free to contact me. Hello, We are working towards doing an evaluation of our current journal subscriptions, to ensure that they are indeed required/useful for our academic departments. I am trying to create a "checklist" of categories in order to establish a priority list of titles for each department in the event that titles may have to be cancelled due to budget cuts. It is understood that the departments themselves would be contacted for their input, and it would be helpful to have a guiding document. Currently, there is no collection development policy to address journal subscriptions. Degrees are granted at all three levels, but not for all departments. Has anyone done this sort of exercise before? Would you please be kind enough to share ideas for such a "checklist" and your experience? Your input, experience and ideas would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
