REGISTRATION IS OPEN: SSP's 8th Annual Librarian Focus Group Michelle Norell 16 Dec 2011 15:08 UTC

REGISTRATION IS OPEN! Before you head out for the holidays, visit the
SSP website and secure your seat at the 2012 Librarian Focus Group.

The 8th Annual SSP Librarian Focus Group: "A Forum for Publishers and
Librarians"

The 2012 meeting features a panel of leading librarians primed and
ready to answer the questions of publishers and industry vendors.

The digital future and managing the continued economic turmoil will be
at the forefront of the discussion along with a range of other topics,
including:

* Trends in pricing and licensing
* Future of authentication
* Challenges of electronic resource preservation
* The state of "open access"
* Growing interest in campus publishing
* Progress in the “just in time” versus the “just in case” library
subscription model

As books reach the digital tipping point and electronic journals
continue to add more functionality, far-reaching decisions are being
made by librarians in regard to their collections. The first "all
electronic" libraries are becoming a reality and more efficient
exchange mechanisms are developing to reduce duplication of
collections.

With double-digit cuts in library budgets inevitable over the next few
years, librarians are becoming increasingly radical in their reactions
to price rises. Necessity is truly the mother of invention, and
surprising new initiatives are being planned and executed within
academic libraries - initiatives that publishers need to be aware of.

Space is limited and this program has historically been a sell-out, so
don't delay in securing your seat.
