Another option (I've just learned about) is if your institution uses the
epsilen elearning management system, you can get NYT coverage there (on
or off campus). Since NYT owns epsilen, they provide a majority of the
news content and the NYT coverage is chronologically comprehensive
(1851-current). However, I think the type of content included is
limited and coverage may actually be comparable to what you would find
on the free web anyway. But it's a way to reach students directly where
they are learning.

Our print NYT subscription will expire soon and we are not renewing, so
we will otherwise continue to rely on aggregators also, such as Factiva
or LexisNexis, for more current NYT content (they have slightly better
search capability than epsilen). We also subscribe to NYT historical
backfiles (1851-2007) through ProQuest, which we are very pleased with
(we cancelled our MF format a couple of years ago).
I believe NewsBank is probably the most comprehensive as far as the
types of documents included in coverage for current content. (ProQuest
is comprehensive for older content, except for some unavailable images)
Factiva and L-N do not allow us remote access, ProQuest does.

We have the NYT Electronic Image Edition from Newsbank which is an exact
digital form of the printed edition . You can print full pages, jump
between sections, zoom in on content, click on live links, and perform
keyword searches. Plus you have access to all subscribed content from
the
subscription date (i.e. archive). However, once the subscription is
cancelled you no longer have access to the subscribed period - reason
for
this is the vendor is a third party. We are authenticated via IP (we
run
EZProxy) so remote users can access using their portal sign-on. Pricing
is
based on FTE.
Information materials I have in the file give the following number for
inquiries: 800-762-8182 or email: sales@newsbank.com
Hope you find this information helpful!

Dear friendly collective wisdom:
Our administration is curious as to the possibility of getting an
institutional subscription available for all currently enrolled students
and current faculty and staff members for the New York Times. Going a
step
further, the issues would be accessible if on campus (authentication by
IP
address) or off campus (authentication by proxy). To me, it SEEMS like
something that shouldn't be too difficult (although I suspect it would
be
quite pricy), but I can't seem to find anyone at the Times who knows
anything about a subscription as described.
So, if you have or know anything about a subscription such as that
described above, would you please private message me and share the juicy
details? Same story if you're interested in what is discovered. Just
tryin' to keep inboxes clear (or as clear as possible).
Thanks, and cheers,
Matt
