The University of Wyoming Libraries is seeking applicants for a Head of Copy Cataloging position. Successful applicants should demonstrate creativity, energy, and the ability to succeed in a changing and dynamic environment.
The Unit performs copy cataloging for all formats and provides bibliographic maintenance of the library catalog. Responsibilities include hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff. Coordinates activities of the Unit within Technical Services, and with other departments within the libraries. Works closely with the Principal Cataloger to ensure adherence to local standards and practices. This position will perform original cataloging, assist with complex copy cataloging beyond the scope of the staff, provide leadership in serials cataloging decisions, and coordinate assigned projects.
As a member of the library faculty, the individual will pursue an active and ongoing program of professional development, research and service. The positions reports to the Head of Technical Services.
Required qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited institution. Minimum of three years of successful, progressively responsible professional experience. The position requires advanced knowledge of LCC, LCSH, USMARC, metadata, AACR2R OCLC, CONSER, authority control and bibliographic maintenance, and integrated library system functionality. Supervisory experience. Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills.
Preferred qualifications: Academic library experience. Experience with the Millennium integrated library system.
