Collection Management Librarian
Radford University seeks a motivated and dedicated librarian to provide
leadership and coordination for all collection development and preservation
activities for the university library including stacks management, policy
development, planning, collection analysis, and information resource
budgeting. Analyzes and reports trends and data in material costs, usage,
and other factors to determine budget parameters, inform purchasing
decisions and de-selection projects, and to provide internal and external
collection development activity reports. Participates as a collection
development liaison. Serves as collections contact to the Virtual Library of
Virginia (VIVA) consortium. Manages library materials preservation including
shelving and binding. Works collaboratively with the library faculty
collection development liaisons and technical services librarians.
Supervises one or two staff responsible for shelving, binding, and
supporting collection development by gathering usage data and performing
other duties. Twelve-month non-tenured professional faculty position,
including responsibilities for university service and professional
contributions. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications,
education and experience.
Required Qualifications: ALA-accredited Masters in Library/Information
Science. Knowledge of collection development and analysis, and of basic
materials preservation. Familiarity with library acquisitions and the
publishing industry, including trends in electronic resources management.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently. Excellent
planning, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. High
level of initiative. Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheets.
Strong arithmetic skills and the ability to manage budgeting. Familiarity
with Library of Congress Classification.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience or significant education in collection
development, preservation, procurement, licensing, electronic usage
statistics, serials, library acquisitions, and/or library cataloging.
Experience working with publishers or vendors. Supervisory education or
experience. A strong commitment to public service.
