Re: Publisher price increase!!!!

Stephen,
Ebsco sent us a message yesterday about the increase with an
explanation. There used to be one category for educational institutions
which was the low rate of $39. Now there are two categories, the lower
rate $39 is charged to the younger schools, primary-high schools. The
upper category #2, is used for universities and colleges of $299. This
will be a very personal decision by each institution I'm sure. We have
decided to retain the subscription because of the highly technical and
broad spectrum of science that this journal covers. We maintain
databases that have a one month embargo for this journal and we have
purchased the archive of issues for this title, but it is a reputable
journal that has been steady in the market while others have failed,
especially in the last couple of years. Good luck on your decisions.

Subject: [SERIALST] Publisher price increase!!!!
Hello,
We just received a notice from our subscription agent that Scientific
American was raising their print subscription price for 2010 from $41.91
(which includes the agent's service charge) to $299.00 Has anyone else
received this outrageous increase notice?
We are in the process of contacting the publisher to find out what might
be the cause of this dramatic price rise.
Stephen
