Bindery processes and budget cuts

Hello,
We are facing an as yet unknown cut to our bindery budget, and need to
come up with ways to handle the definite reduction in commercial binding
and the impact on the collection. Has anyone come up with strategies to
streamline binding processes, methods of identifying costs of commercial
binding versus other in-house methods (boxing, shrink-wrapping, loose
issues on the shelves, etc.)? I've done a literature search on Serialst
and gotten some information, but would like to hear from those of you
who have experienced this first-hand. Actual procedures, cost/staff time
breakdowns, etc., would be greatly appreciated.
If you can help please e-mail me directly. I am happy to summarize for
the list the responses I receive.
Thank you.
