Summary:  The Systems Librarian serves as a library systems administrator and liaison to the museum's IT department for all technology used by the Ingalls Library. This position supports and coordinates all computer systems (MS Operating System, MS Office products, LAMP, et. al.) and network systems (Linux and MS) for the library which include all automated functions of the book, image and archives collections and the library's website and intranet.  The Systems Librarian must be proficient in, or quickly learn and master, all library support applications and be able to recommend software solutions in addition to: implementation and training; identifying internal and external technology resources;  working to provide support for research through technological services; and participating with the library acquisitions and collection development team to evaluate, implement and maintain online electronic resources (databases, CD-ROMs, free Internet sites, scanned documents, etc.). The Systems Librarian reports to the Director of Library and Archives and participates in library administration as part of a team that includes librarians specializing in public services, technical services, collection development, visual resources, serials and archives.

Requirements:  Two to four years experience in library automation required, ALA/MLS preferred, or comparable combination of education and experience. Experience with integrated library systems and bibliographic utilities (Ex Libris and OCLC preferred); ability to master and administer a wide variety of general software titles including all Microsoft Office products, as well as specific products associated with library functions. Knowledge of computer-based resources and services; Internet/WWW and XML/PHP/HTML authoring experience required. Excellent analytical and communications skills.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
