Dear Mr. Maravetz:
Thank you for your inquiry about THE PEOPLE. I regret having to
inform you that the Socialist Labor Party was forced to suspend
publication with the March-April 2008 issue. The SLP has also been
forced to close its National Offices here in San Jose, California.
The reason for both decisions was and remains lack of funds. As a
result, it was not possible to respond to inquiries such as yours
until now.
No announcement of those decisions appeared in the March-April issue
because we took the optimistic view that readers and supporters of
the SLP who followed the financial statements printed in every issue
of THE PEOPLE would take cognizance of our predicament and respond to
our appeals. Many did, and generously. Unfortunately, however, the
response was insufficient to meet the need and the SLP was forced to
take the decisions mentioned.
A formal announcement of the suspension, and a further appeal for the
support needed to resume publication, is in preparation and will be
mailed soon. In the meantime, I apologize for the inconvenience the
delay has caused you and thank you, most appreciatively, for your
interest.
Sincerely yours,
ROBERT BILLS
Acting Editor
