A number of years ago UMI had a splicer they would lend you to
consolidate microfilm. I believe the loan was free, but you paid the
shipping both ways. I don't know if they still do that, but UMI has
since split into ProQuest/UMI and NAPC (National Archives Publishing
Company) so you might check both of them:
ProQuest/UMI 800 521-0600
NAPC 800 420-6272
Good luck!

Subject: [SERIALST] Microfilm Splicer
Hello all,
I am brand new to this list.
Our library is hoping to condense our microfilm collection by splicing
consecutive journal volume reels together. I've done this at another
library, and I figured it would be simple to locate the proper equipment
for the project. I've searched for a microfilm splicer for a couple of
weeks now--most of what I find are large pieces of equipment, or
"ultrasonic" splicers in the $2-3 thousand range. I'm thinking of a
simple little piece of equipment that you use both to cut the film and
hold it in place while you apply tape.
I found a discussion from this list from about 10 years ago online about
finding microfilm splicing equipment, so I figured this would be a good
place to ask. Can anyone direct me to where we can purchase the right
kind of microfilm splicer (and tape tabs)?
Thanks,
Casey Roberson
