Thank you all so much, I have gotten some very helpful information!
Mykie--that was how it was previously done; however, it is somewhat confusing for our ILL and reference staff. And there are some journals that we don't bind because they are simply too big and don't need to be bound...ugh!

Yes! It would be of great use to your patrons. Just close your
"library has" holdings with the last bound and update it every time
you bind something for that particular title. Then make the issues
"not display in the OPAC" in Acquisitions. Your instruction
librarians will need to teach that what is in the "library has" is
bound and what is in the "recent issues" is unbound. Simple.
Issues recently received: v. 36, no. 1 (2008 Jan/Feb)
Library has: v.21(1993)-v.35(2007)
