Position Title: Assistant Professor/Serials Librarian

Position Function:  Serves as a member of a dynamic Technical Services Management Team committed to the successful acquisition and management of the Libraries' collection of serial resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  Collaborates with the Acquisitions Resource Planning Librarian and relevant personnel and departments in planning, setting goals and monitoring workflows concerning the physical processing of print serials (including check-in, claiming, title maintenance and binding); attends meetings with members of the Technical Services Management Team and participates in the Library Coordinators group meetings; solves complex problems that arise during the processing of serials resources; assists in managing the Acquisitions/Serials Department staff's creation and payment of serial orders and invoices within the Acquisitions module of the Libraries' Unicorn Workflows integrated library system; supervises four check-in staff and two binding unit staff; participates in the training of Acquisitions/Serials Departments staff; assist in the authentication, activation and maintenance of access to e-serials; manages and carries out procedures pertaining to the processing of invoices for microform and print serials resources; maintains ongoing contacts with publishers and vendors; collaborates with serials cataloging to assist with record maintenance; keep abreast of current trends, standards and developments in the serials industry regarding vendor-developed services, resources, automated systems and publishing models; participates in appropriate collection development activities as a library liaison to one or more academic departments; meets library and university requirements for promotion and tenure in the areas of librarianship, research, service and collegiality. Reports to the Acquisitions Resource Planning Librarian.

Minimum Qualifications:  ALA accredited MLS/MLIS or international equivalent; two-five years relevant experience; supervisory and management experience; experience with an automated library system; including the use of proxy servers; high level of familiarity with computers.

Preferred Qualifications: Additional graduate degree; previous library experience working with electronic resources; experience with the acquisition and serials modules of the SirsiDynix Workflows integrated library system; experience with Serials Solutions products; familiarity with link resolvers, OpenURL applications, ERMS and other library technologies related to e-resource management and access; experience working with vendors and subscriptions agents; knowledge of serials cataloging (print and electronic) and experience with spreadsheets and databases, preferably FileMaker Pro, MS Excel and Access.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  Knowledge of current trends in the management and access of electronic resources; high level of familiarity with computers; strong analytical and organizational skills as well as effective interpersonal, collegial and communication skills (both oral and written); ability to set and adjust priorities and work flows in a dynamic and changing environment and accept new challenges in order to realize departmental and library goals; ability to work independently as well as part of a team; ability to carry out professional research and service necessary to meet library and university requirements for promotion and tenure.
