Re: HOW MANY PEOPLE USE DOT MATRIX PRINTERS FOR LABELS?

We still use Okidata dot-matrix printers for labels. The reasons we
do this are:
-to avoid the need to batch everything. We can print individual
labels on demand, directly from our ILS after we edit a record. We do
not have to worry about mixing up our own labels with someone else's.
- We can also use foil-backed labels, which I was having trouble
finding in laser stock, although that may have changed by now.
- With label sheets, you have to have a way to get it to print on the
right label, to use up the labels on the sheet. There is also a limit
to how many times you can send the same sheet through the printer.
With the Okidatas, we do not have as much choice in fonts but it's
simple and works well for us. The Okidatas are sturdy, and because
they are so relatively inexpensive, we can have them at every workstation.
We do have a laser printer but it is shared by the entire department,
and we use it to print other things besides labels.
