Subject: New developments for Cambridge Journals Online (CJO)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Cambridge University Press is pleased to announce the release of further
enhancements to Cambridge Journals Online (CJO). Major new developments in
functionality and design provide improved access to the content of our
collection of over 230 leading academic and practitioner journals in
science, technology and medicine, the humanities and social sciences.

Informed by detailed consultation with the library and research
communities, Cambridge schedules three major releases of updated
functionality each year. This enables us to develop a flexible,
customer-focused service and ensures that we can respond rapidly to
requests for new features and functionality.

With the latest release in June 2008, there have been a number of
developments, including:

Social bookmarking services, which allow users to save URL links of web
pages they want to remember or share. Users can now bookmark links from
journal homepages and article abstracts via such services as del.icio.us,
Connotea., and Bibsonomy. CJO is also fully enabled for users of the
CiteULike service.

Enhanced search facilities, which include: Cite Search for titles matches
the title of a journal as the user types; context-sensitive spelling
correction suggests alternative spellings to words not matched in the
initial search; automatic saved searches with re-run and edit facilities;
and the ability to search throughout the CJO website using the ÿÿquick
searchÿÿ option.

Improved access: - users can now to log in directly from the abstract page
of an article. Also, a Widget can be downloaded from the main CJO homepage
and used to search the site.

Sample and New issue links have been created for each journal to directly
access the journalÿÿs sample issue or new issues.

Comments on articles - The second phase of development for this complex
functionality includes such additions for CJO users as recognising comments
by unique identifiers, the ability to set up comment alerts, and the option
to publish comments anonymously.

As a not-for-profit publisher Cambridge University Press is uniquely placed
to offer a stable publishing environment in a volatile market place. The
release of these enhancements demonstrates our continued investment
commitment to online publishing, the academic community and our society
partners.

Even as the changes detailed above were launched last month, Cambridge
University Press is continuing research and development to provide new
features and further enhancements for CJO. We look forward to announcing
the next raft of improvements in the coming months.

University of Chicago Press Journals garner top spots in 2007 impact
factor rankings

The latest Thomson Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) impact
factors, which rate science and social science journals, once again
places the University of Chicago Press Journals at the top of the
rankings. University of Chicago Press Journals took the top spot in 4
categories and the top 10 in 17 categories.

Journals from Chicago's Social Sciences maintained a strong presence
in the 2007 rankings, with American Historical Review, American
Journal of Sociology, Journal of Labor Economics, and Journal of
Political Economics all securing the top spot in their respective
categories. Current Anthropology climbed into the 3rd spot in
Anthropology.

Among Infectious Diseases publications Clinical Infectious Diseases,
Journal of Infectious Diseases, and Infection Control and Hospital
Epidemiology all made significant gains.

The remaining journals within the Chicago social science and science
portfolio either maintained their high position or made significant
advances in the rankings. Notable showings include a 3rd place repeat
by The Journal of Geology and an impressive fifteen spot jump by the
American Journal of Education.

"While there is a healthy debate surrounding the methodology and
influence of impact factors, we are nonetheless proud of our
rankings," said Everett Conner, Journals Division Manager of The
University of Chicago Press. "That the articles in our portfolio are
cited so widely shows that the work that goes into refereed journals
results in scholarship that is both groundbreaking and durable."

About the University of Chicago Press Journals Division: Founded in
1891, the University of Chicago Press was conceived by President
William Rainey Harper as an "organic part" of the University,
extending the influence of Chicago scholars around the world. Within
ten years, the Press had introduced fourteen scholarly journals,
including American Journal of Sociology, The Elementary School
Journal, The Journal of Geology, International Journal of Plant
Sciences, Journal of Near Eastern Studies, and Journal of Political
Economy. All remain in wide circulation.

Today the Journals Division of the Press publishes nearly 50 journals
and hardcover serials, presenting original research from international
scholars in the social sciences, humanities, education, biological and
medical sciences, and physical sciences.
