Re: Libraries Moving Towards E-Only Access

Hello,
For our current serials subscriptions, we are buying all electronic except for a few titles (less than 50) that are not available electronically. We are also buying electronic journal backfiles to replace the older print volumes in our collection due to the library space being downsized or used for other purposes. Three years ago when this conversion was first proposed, there was a great deal of anxiety; but now our users prefer the electronic access which is very convenient. The usage statistics show that the electronic journals are very popular. Most of the content that we have purchased electronically would be retained even if the current subscriptions were not maintained. Of course, the greatest concern usually is having sufficient finances to maintain the current subscriptions, print or electronic.
Best regards,

Dear Serialisters,
Just out of curiosity, I am wondering how many libraries out there have
dropped their entire print collections/subscriptions and gone E-only!
I am hearing about more and more libraries following this trend and was
wondering how it has worked out for them and why they decided to make
that move. Thanks!! I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best,
Karen Yacobucci, MLS
