For those interested, below is the response I received from the
publisher regarding the numbering for Choral Journal. June/July 2008 was
designated as v.48:12; August 2008 was designated as v.49:2; the
publisher reports that a v.49:1 issue will not be published.

Hi Bill,

The numbering is correct. We normally have a July issue that is number
1. This year we combined that with our June issue. So technically there
will be no number one this year. We thought it would be simpler to keep
August as number two since that is what it has always been. I hope this
make sense.
