The Thomas Cooper Library - University of South Carolina
The Thomas Cooper Library seeks two dynamic, service-oriented librarians
in the Acquisitions unit of Thomas Cooper Library. One position,
Assistant Monograph Acquisitions Librarian, would be involved with the
oversight of the ordering, receiving, payment, and copy cataloging of
monographic materials added to the university Libraries collections as
well as the ordering, receipt and payment of material for the System
Campus Libraries. Examines systems reports and resolves discrepancies.
Acts as liaison to Thomas Cooper Library Circulation and Reference
Departments. This position reports to the Monograph Acquisitions
Librarian.
The second position, Serials-Electronic Resources Librarian, reports to
the Head of Acquisitions, and will coordinate the development and
continuing operation of the USC System Electronic Resources Management
module. Serves as part of the Acquisitions team which licenses,
activates and renews electronic resources, creating access points and
accurate holdings records in the library catalog. Works with the
library's print periodical and serials collection, placing and canceling
orders, renewing subscriptions and solving problems.
The University of South Carolina, founded in 1801, enrolls approximately
18,000 undergraduate students and 8,000 graduate students on the
Columbia campus. University Libraries contains more than 3 million
volumes, 4 million microforms, 1 million manuscripts, 300,000 maps, and
875,427 government documents; and houses the University's special
collections. University Libraries is a member of SOLINET, OCLC, the
Association of Research Libraries, and the Center for Research
Libraries.
Salary is $34,000 minimum for 12 months. Salary is dependent on
qualifications and experience. Position is full-time faculty status,
tenure-track. Benefits include medical, dental, state retirement or
optional retirement plan.
Minimum Qualifications for both positions: Master's degree awarded from
an ALA-accredited library school; strong oral and written communication
skills; ability to work successfully as a member of formal and informal
teams.
Preferred Qualifications for Assistant Monograph Acquisitions Librarian:
Experience with III Millennium, Acquisitions Module. Demonstrated
organization, analytical and interpersonal skills. Acquisition
experience in an academic library.
Preferred Qualifications for Serials-Electronic Resources Librarian:
Experience with III Millennium, ERM management or work with serials.
Familiarity with online searching techniques and internet resources;
knowledge of PC based software.
