CATALOGING AND ELECTRONIC RESOURCES LIBRARIAN
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) invites applications for
the position of Cataloging and Electronic Resources Librarian, req #: 539, a
faculty appointment with rank leading to tenure. The successful candidate
will provide leadership and expertise in all issues relating to the
cataloging of electronic resources, original materials, and other special
formats. All library faculty are responsible for working collaboratively to
achieve University and Library goals and objectives. In addition, faculty
members must meet the requirements for tenure and promotion.
This position will be responsible for the following: perform original and
complex adaptive cataloging in all formats, including electronic resources,
following national standards and local practices; collaborate with staff to
develop policies and procedures for maximizing patron access to electronic
resources and other materials; develop bibliographic descriptions, assign
subject headings and classification numbers for input into OCLC and
Millennium.; resolve database maintenance problems and provide training,
direction and support to paraprofessional staff in performing cataloging and
data maintenance procedures; serve as a liaison to vendors and obtain
records for import/export; maintain knowledge of current cataloging
practices and bibliographic access. Reports to the Head of Cataloging.
The following qualifications are required: ALA-accredited MLS degree; recent
professional cataloging experience; knowledge of issues and trends in
electronic resources and special formats cataloging; demonstrated knowledge
of current cataloging rules and standards including AACR2rev, LCSH, MARC
formats, and LC classification; awareness of current trends and developments
in cataloging and metadata schemas; demonstrated excellent communication and
collaboration skills with the ability to work independently. Additional
qualifications preferred: reading knowledge of one or more Western European
languages; experience using Innovative Interfaces, Inc.'s Millennium ILS
system; experience with Open URL resolvers ; experience working with vendors
on data quality issues.
