Re: ST200X Digital Scanner

We were given a ST-200 a couple of years ago when they System purchased a
large amount of microfilm. The machine works well when using the classic
mode, with good detail.
Most of our patrons won't use it, because of the time factor. With our
older microfilm reader/printers they can find the obituaries they are
looking for, and quickly print out the image. With the ST-200, the film
scrolling is slower, the base image is smaller, and the scans are much
slower then the non-digital copying. Those patrons who are serious about
their work, and have a large amount of images to make are more likely to use
the ST-200, since they can then burn them onto their CD-RW or thumb drive
and view them in high detail at home later.
Earlier there was a problem with the software, and people would work for
several hours, have numerous images ready, and when they tried to burn them
onto their CD or thumb drive, the program would crash, losing all the work.
This has not occurred lately, but has caused me to be extremely cautious. I
advise all our users to use CD-RWs or thumb drives, and save their work
frequently.
