Northeastern University Libraries seek an energetic, creative, and
self-motivated individual to join the re-energized, service-oriented, and
forward-looking team in its Technical Services Division. The Division’s
Non-Print Management Department handles all electronic and media-based
resources, working in close collaboration with its partner, the Print
Management Department.
Reporting to the Head of Non-Print Management, this position involves
leadership and management of the day-to-day operations of the Ordering and
Metadata Management (OMM) unit within the Department,including:
* Primary responsibility for the provision of original cataloging and
metadata for all non-print materials and digital projects, including
additions to IRis, Northeastern's digital repository;
* Management of the ordering and purchase of e-resources and media
materials of all kinds;
* License and vendor negotiations;
* Ensuring that the OMM group runs efficiently and smoothly through the
setting of daily and long-term priorities;
* Managing workflow and identifying and resolving problems;
* Planning, organizing, and overseeing projects.
* Hiring, training, and evaluating 3-9 FTE staff, planning training
programs, and producing training materials;
* Participating in planning, integrating, and reporting on the
activities of the Technical Services Division as a whole to ensure the
achievement of Divisional goals.
* Working closely with the Assistant Head, Resource and Receipt Control
to coordinate and plan Department work and will be expected to have a broad
understanding of all Department activities and related technical services
best practices. Also works closely with other Departments on digital and
non-print projects.
QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA-accredited program; additional advanced
degree preferred. At least 4 years demonstrated successful experience in
increasingly responsible positions managing or supervising cataloging
and/or database maintenance activities ,e-resource and media ordering, and
licensing in academic or research libraries. Knowledge of and experience
with LC classification, AACR2, LCSH, and a variety of metadata and
associated functional standards and tools (Dublin Core, MODS), OCLC, and
cataloging in non-print formats, including both serials and monographs.
Experience with digital projects (e.g. repositories) and integrated library
systems, especially III's Millennium system, preferred. Excellent planning,
analytical, interpersonal, communications, supervisory, project management
and organizational skills desired. Ability to work internally and
externally with a wide variety of individual at all levels, a strong
service orientation, and demonstrated commitment to staff development and
diversity in the workplace.
SETTING: Northeastern, located in the heart of Boston, is an urban Carnegie

SALARY: Salary: from $44,753, depending on qualifications: Excellent
