Integrated Systems Librarian, South Dakota State University
H.M. Briggs Library welcomes applications for a 12-month faculty
position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor, dependent
upon qualifications. Salary commensurate with qualifications.
Responsibilities:
-Serve as a member of the Technical Services Division: serials,
cataloging, acquisitions, and computer support services. Primarily
provide support and development assistance to these departments with
some assistance to other departments.
-Supervise one Computer Support Specialist.
-Provide technical support for the Ex Libris ALEPH system: test,
install, and implement module releases and system enhancements; develop
custom reports; manage ALEPH configuration tables; enhance system
interfaces; train library staff.
-Maintain a broad and detailed mastery of ALEPH and other core library
systems and applications.
-Collaborate with South Dakota Library Network staff and campus IT
colleagues to provide support and innovative information services.
-Provide research support for library collection analysis activities.
-Provide support and training for information systems, including SFX,
MetaLib, OCLC Connexion Client, CONTENTdm, ILLiad, and Docutek.
-Select books and serve as faculty liaison for selected disciplines.
Develop and maintain discipline-specific web research guides.
-Work at the information desk, including some evenings and weekends as
set by the Head of Technical Services.
-Fulfill faculty expectations for librarianship, scholarly activity, and
service as required for promotion and tenure.
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE:
The Integrated Systems Librarian reports to the Head of Technical
Services and works cooperatively with technical and public services
staff members to enhance library services.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-An earned ALA-accredited master's degree in Library Science;
-Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and the ability to
interact effectively with students, faculty, and staff;
-Evidence of ability to work independently;
-Evidence of ability to work collaboratively in a complex and changing
environment;
-Graduate coursework and/or employment experience with integrated
library systems;
-Graduate coursework and/or employment experience in one or more of the
following areas: digitization of information, federated searching,
serials control, cataloging, metadata, acquisitions, collection
development, networking, server applications.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-An earned subject master's degree in addition to the MLS (required for
tenure track appointment)
-An internship, practicum, or other work experience in an academic or
research library;
-Knowledge of and experience with Ex Libris ALEPH system;
-Working knowledge of, or experience with, design, implementation, and
maintenance of web pages;
-Working knowledge of, or experience with, instructional and/or
presentation software.

Library/University/Community: Hilton M. Briggs Library is one of the
largest libraries in the Dakotas. The library serves all SDSU academic
disciplines and holds approximately 648,000 bound volumes, 785,000
microforms, and 577,807 government documents. Over 1,800 current
periodical titles and approximately 37,000 electronic periodicals are
available. The library staff consists of 13 professionals, 19 support
staff, and 9 FTE part-time student employees. SDSU is a land-grant
university with an enrollment of approximately 11,400 students. It is
comprised of nine colleges offering over 200 majors, minors, and
options, 25 masters’ degrees and 8 doctorates. SDSU is located in
Brookings, South Dakota, a community of nearly 19,000 in eastern South
Dakota. It is 50 miles north of Sioux Falls, a city of approximately
143,000.
