Re: III and Serials Solutions

We do not use the acquisitions module in our ILS (currently Classic
Dynix). I use the ERM as a comprehensive electronic resource management
tool. I keep all contact information, payment information, licensing,
and administrative user ids and passwords in the ERM.
I would not say it is the electronic resource problem solver for all
libraries, because it may not necessarily do what you need. It
definitely was a learning curve for me to confront taking all the
information I had been used to keeping in notebooks and folders all over
the place to keeping it in the ERM. I also had to call Tech Support
several times during implementation, because doing it was not as easy
and obvious as I thought it would be. After you have an idea of how it
works, you should come up with a plan on how to organize your
collections with the ERM. I think someone else asked about the price
for the ERM. As far as that goes, I will have to look that up and get
back to you.
To get a better idea on what it can do for you, sign up for a web
session at http://www.serialssolutions.com/learning.html. The Serials
Solutions website also has numerous handouts and other information.
Also, Serials Solutions should have a booth at ALA this year. If you
are at ALA, stop by and chat with the friendly folks there. Don Litner
and Jeff Aipperspach are very nice and helpful.
