DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the California Digital Library's (CDL)
Director for Collections and the Head of Acquisitions at UCSD Libraries,
provides leadership in the acquisitions process and negotiates, on behalf of
the entire university system, with vendors of scholarly digital content to
facilitate collaborative investments by the 10 campuses. Serves as the
expert in developing and implementing complex electronic resources business
and pricing models used in the negotiation and management of these ongoing
investments. Engages in strategic planning and analysis. Initiates and
facilities successful collaborations with advisory groups and campus
collection development officers. Manages the CDL Acquisitions Division which
acquires electronic resources for the California Digital Library, assists in
managing the SFX link resolver knowledgebase, and recharges campuses for
their co-investment expenses.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Significant working knowledge and/or experience in the acquisition and
management of licensed digital resources, preferably in an academic or
research library setting.
* Extensive organizational, analysis and decision-making skills to
continually prioritize between long and short term needs, to tolerate rapid
shifts in direction and competing demands and constant requests for priority
changes from a variety of sources, keep track of ongoing projects and tasks
simultaneously and meet multiple concurrent deadlines.
* Strong understanding of business contracts and licensing issues.
* Advanced organizational, negotiating, and decision-making skills, with
expertise to clarify and resolve conflict situations and recommend action
for attainable goals.
* Demonstrated knowledge of general computer programs, functions and
operations as management tools to perform financial analysis. Includes
proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing and sophisticated database
and reporting applications.
* Superior written and verbal communications skills, including clarity,
diplomacy and presentation ability to present the CDL in a professional
manner to publishers and staff UC-wide.
* Demonstrated ability to delegate tasks to other employees, appropriate to
their job classification and abilities.
* Demonstrated ability to operate very independently and exercise good
judgment.
