presentation of your serial holdings? Join your colleagues for a day
dedicated to finding Local Holdings Maintenance peace and serenity.
Zen and the Art of Local Holdings Maintenance: A Summit
Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at the Holiday Inn in Saratoga Springs, NY
9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Registration begins at 8:00 a.m.
The goal of this one-day summit is to enhance New York State libraries'
leadership role in contributing high-quality local holdings to the OCLC
WorldCat union catalog. For many years, libraries have shared
item-specific holdings information - regarding their serials
collections, in particular - regionally and beyond. This effort has
helped library users everywhere locate and obtain access to the
materials they need. The summit will provide a forum for the exchange of
ideas regarding issues related to the ongoing contribution and
maintenance of Local Holdings.
The working program includes:
Awareness: Local Holdings Maintenance and OCLC
Myrtle Myers, Product Manager, Holdings and Local Data, OCLC
Acceptance: Can Less than Perfect be Perfectly Okay?
Natalie Sturr, Coordinator of Library Technology, SUNY Oswego
Lauren Pinsley, OCLC Services Manager, Nylink
Sharing: Approaches to Control and Presentation of Serial Holdings
Summary: Four presenters will share their perspectives about projects
or processes supporting the presentation of serial holdings.
Caryl Ward, Head of Acquisitions, Binghamton University Libraries
Barbara Swetman, Acquisitions and Serials Librarian, Hamilton College
Miguel Figueroa, SERHOLD Regional Coordinator, MidAtlantic Region
Jeff Sohn, Associate Librarian, Documents and Digital Collections, New
York State Library
Openness: Roundtable Discussions
Summit participants will have the opportunity to participate in
discussions with their peers, learn about issues and trends in Local
Holdings Maintenance and contribute to guidelines or recommendations
concerning Local Holdings Maintenance and the use of MARC holdings
format.
