This is a full-time tenure track academic position, with an anticipated start date of May 2008. This newly-created position includes a novel combination of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the development of a digital collection that delivers content and functionality and plays a critical role in supporting the implementation of the Taylor Family Digital Library. *Responsibilities* Reporting to the Head of Collections Services, and working within a collaborative environment, the Digital Collection Development Librarian will assist in researching, recommending, planning, and implementing new procedures and policies to support the development of an integrated digital collection. The incumbent will work closely with the Head of Technical Services and Digital Access in the development of evaluation strategies and plans for improving access to digital collections, as well as provide expertise to other areas across Libraries and Cultural Resources who are carrying out evaluation work. Responsibilities include: · Establishing a strategy for the transition from a predominantly print book acquisition practice to a digital-preferred model · Investigating and assessing elements of the digital library, including content, functionality, technological support, and long-term preservation and stability, in order to create an approach that focuses upon the curatorial aspects of collections in addition to content · Developing ongoing evaluation practices which, in addition to traditional collection assessment techniques, will focus on user analysis and the development of functional criteria for digital collections · Building the e-book collection through active investigation of new book technology, such as print on demand, mass digitization, etc. · Planning a sustainable print/electronic strategy that meets user needs · Collaborating with Technical Services in workflow changes in order to increase efficiencies and improve access to the collections · Anticipating future trends in an evolving digital environment, while maintaining current awareness of national and international developments that affect collection development, license negotiation, rights management and preservation standards. As this is an academic staff position, participation in scholarship, teaching, and service is expected. ** * Required Qualifications* · Master's degree from an American Library Association accredited program in librarianship or recognized equivalent · Minimum of three years of professional experience in an academic research library · Demonstrated experience with the development of electronic collections in support of scholarly pursuits · Strong communication and interpersonal skills · Proven success in project management · Demonstrated ability to work both independently and with a variety of groups in collaborative and cooperative situations · Expertise in using Excel and other assessment software · Commitment to professional development and service. *Desired Qualifications* · Knowledge of collection analysis principles and tools · Knowledge of collection development and management strategies, as well as familiarity with emerging trends with collection selection tools and processes · Knowledge of the principles, standards, and technological framework for digital preservation, as well as basic preservation of legacy collections · Knowledge of, and facility with, emerging technologies as applied to collection development, evaluation, and presentation. *Salary and Benefits* Commensurate with qualifications and experience, at the Assistant or Associate Librarian level.
